Business Development Manager

Reporting to: Managing Director

Location: Stockport

 

Job Purpose:

To support the growth of turnover for our client by delivering new business targets through a field   and desk based team. Develop and execute a marketing plan to aid the new client acquisition effort.

 
Key Accountabilities:

·  Take the role of BM in line with the strategic plan

·  Responsible for all new business generated through all sales channels, whilst carrying personal responsibility for corporate, partnership and affinity channels in addition to the agreed geographic and vertical markets

·  Conduct market research in order to identify market requirement for current and future products and appropriate price pointing as appropriate

·  Develop own sales channels and accounts within the identified key markets and build strong long term relationships with new larger clients

·  Support the sales team to achieve new business targets through self-generated leads, telemarketing leads, marketing generated leads, campaigns (inbound and outbound) and leads arising out of strategic business partnerships

·  Manage sales and marketing resource budget, identifying sales trends and prioritising key sectors to target and apply sales resources to, taking necessary corrective action to ensure resources are utilised as effectively as possible

·  Liaise with other non-sales and marketing colleagues to ensure new client experience is professional, efficient, and engaging and that new client retention rates are maximised

·  Ensure that best practice is identified, communicated, and deployed throughout the team as necessary

·  Ensure that you are aware of all relevant competitor intelligence and use this information appropriately to improve our value proposition

·  Execute the strategy identified and contribute to any changes

·  Ensure compliance with all company reporting, administration and sales processes and procedures and to ensure that the sales team does likewise

·  Ensure sales are made within agreed authority limits. Review pricing structure with MD to ensure rates are competitive and in accordance with quality of service offered and resource consumed

·  Within agreed parameters, to act as a first point of contact for the sales team; when they have a pricing query or request, or when a creative solution is required in order to secure a piece of new business. Escalate to MD as appropriate

·  Continually develop and improve the sales collateral and messaging used, ensuring consistency

·  Ensure the team uses all company proposal, contract and presentation material as directed when liaising with clients and present in a timely manner. To provide ongoing input into the continual improvement of such material

·  Maintain forward visibility of pipeline activity to ensure achievement of monthly and annual financial objectives. Drive continual improvement in the quality of pipelines and the reporting of same. Take immediate and positive action to resolve any delays in pipeline

·  Measurably improve performance of failing members of the team and carry out regular performance reviews

·  To carry personal self-generated new business targets for and ensure those targets are met consistently

·  Devise and maintain a suite of sales KPI metrics

Key Attributes, Experience & Skills

  • Highly motivated self-starter with proven track record in B2B sales and marketing management, having previously and consistently achieved agreed sales targets and managed impressive sales growth in an SME environment
  • Will be motivated in joining the SME at commencement of its accelerated growth strategy and over its 5 year sales and marketing plan
  • Ability to demonstrate outstanding sales performance, both as an individual and as a team manager, ideally in a related field or business sector. Will have existing client contacts and networking opportunities
  • Demonstrable experience of devising and delivering solution based sales to SME and corporate organisations
  • Excellent presentation skills, comfortable presenting at Board level
  • Good IT skills particularly in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM systems
  • High level of numeracy, grammatical skills, and commercial awareness, with experience of devising bespoke proposals underpinned by a good understanding of delivery costs and margins
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build relationships internally and externally
  • Experience of identifying market trends, building sector and competitor intelligence and using same to refine the sales proposition
  • Experience of developing, maintaining and delivering marketing strategies to meet company objectives
  • Familiarity and skill with the key marketing tools including written communication, website development, market research, digital marketing, visual communication software products and Microsoft software suite of products
  • Expert in internet and social media networking strategies, with a demonstrable track record
  • Ability to work unsupervised and with minimal guidance
